A public participation forum organized by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and other civil society groups at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi was disrupted on June 12, 2026, by suspected goons. Witnesses reported that the intruders attempted to steal phones and other valuables from attendees, causing chaos and forcing the event to be temporarily halted.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, one of the detained individuals claimed that they were sent by Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi to disrupt the forum. The KHRC had organized the event to discuss human rights issues and gather public input on budget allocations. Police intervened and arrested several suspects, who are currently being held for questioning.
John Mbadi, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations. The KHRC has condemned the attack, calling for a thorough investigation to ensure accountability. The forum was later resumed after security was restored.
