The Gnaoua Festival officially opened on June 26, 2026, in the streets of Essaouira, Morocco, with the launch taking place in the heart of the medina and along the city's main thoroughfares. The opening ceremony was attended by André Azoulay, advisor to the King of Morocco, and Neila Tazi, president of the festival, along with the wali (regional governor) of the Marrakech-Safi region.
The festival, known for its celebration of Gnaoua music and culture, features performances by traditional Gnaoua musicians as well as international artists. This year's edition includes a diverse program of concerts, workshops, and cultural events spread across multiple venues in the city.
