Ghana has received a donation of 2,000 metric tons of fertilizer from the Kingdom of Morocco. The shipment, consisting of NPK and DAP fertilizers, arrived at the port of Tema on April 15, 2026. The donation is part of a broader cooperation agreement between the two nations aimed at bolstering Ghana's agricultural productivity and food security.
The handover ceremony was attended by Ghana's Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, and the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil. Minister Acheampong stated that the fertilizers would be distributed to smallholder farmers across the country to support the upcoming farming season. He emphasized the donation's role in the government's efforts to modernize agriculture and reduce reliance on imports.
This contribution follows a similar donation of 1,500 tons of fertilizer made by Morocco in 2025. The ongoing partnership is framed within Morocco's "Green Generation" strategy and its commitment to South-South cooperation, sharing expertise and resources to address food security challenges in Africa.
The fertilizers are expected to be allocated through Ghana's existing subsidy programs, ensuring they reach the intended beneficiaries. Officials noted that this support is crucial for mitigating the impact of global price fluctuations and supply chain disruptions on local farmers.
