The Government of Ghana has announced that indigenous mining company Engineers and Planners Ltd (E&P) has been selected as the successful bidder for the Damang Mining Lease, following a competitive tender process overseen by the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
Damang is a significant gold mining operation located in the Western Region of Ghana. The mine was previously operated by Gold Fields, one of the world's largest gold mining companies, which had held the lease for a number of years before its expiry prompted the government to open the asset to competitive bidding.
The selection of E&P, a Ghanaian-owned engineering and mining firm, reflects the government's stated policy of promoting indigenous participation in the country's extractive sector. Engineers and Planners Ltd has previously been involved in mining support and contract operations across Ghana, and its selection for the Damang lease marks a notable expansion of its role in the sector.
The Minerals Commission, which regulates mineral rights and oversees licensing in Ghana, supervised the tender process. The government has indicated that the transition of the lease to E&P will be conducted in accordance with Ghanaian mining law and applicable regulations. Further details regarding the timeline and terms of the lease transfer are expected to be disclosed in subsequent official communications.
