Xbox has officially confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day, the upcoming prequel in the Gears of War series, will not be released on PlayStation 5. The game remains exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, according to statements from Microsoft and The Coalition.
In a recent interview, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty reiterated that the title is being developed solely for Xbox and PC platforms. This confirmation comes amid ongoing speculation about Microsoft's multiplatform strategy following the release of several first-party titles on rival consoles.
Gears of War: E-Day was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024. The game is set 14 years before the original Gears of War and focuses on the first Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde emerged from the ground. The Coalition is developing the title using Unreal Engine 5.
No specific release date has been announced, but the game is expected to launch in 2025 or later. Xbox has not commented on potential future ports to other platforms.
