The Gabonese capital of Libreville will host the first edition of the Conference of African Ministers for the Economy of the Sea and Ports (CAMEPT) from June 24 to 26, 2026. The event was announced by the Gabonese government and the African Union's Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (AUC-DARBE).
The conference aims to establish a permanent platform for African ministers and experts to discuss and coordinate policies related to the blue economy, maritime security, and port development. It is seen as a key step in implementing the African Union's 2050 Africa's Integrated Maritime Strategy (AIMS 2050).
Key topics for discussion are expected to include sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity conservation, maritime transport, and port infrastructure financing. The event will bring together government officials, industry leaders, and international partners from across the continent.
The decision to hold the inaugural conference in Gabon aligns with the country's strategic focus on developing its maritime sector and its role in regional maritime governance within the Gulf of Guinea.
