Governor Jim Justice joined executives from Frontieras North America for a groundbreaking ceremony on April 2, 2026, for a new coal processing facility in Mason County, West Virginia. The event was held at the former Allied Chemical site in Point Pleasant.
Frontieras plans to utilize its patented Solid Carbon Fractionation (SCF) technology at the facility. The company claims this process can convert raw coal into solid carbon, hydrocarbon liquids, and hydrocarbon gases with reduced emissions compared to traditional methods.
State officials, including Governor Justice, have promoted the project as a boost for the local economy and a modern application for West Virginia coal. The development follows Frontieras's acquisition of the site and necessary state permits. The company anticipates the plant will create approximately 150 permanent jobs once operational.
