The French government has officially appointed Philippe Lalliot as the new French ambassador to Morocco. The appointment was published in the Official Journal of the French Republic on April 16, 2026.
Lalliot, a seasoned diplomat and former French ambassador to the United Nations in New York, will succeed Christophe Lecourtier. Lecourtier has been appointed as the new Director General of the French Treasury, a position he assumed earlier this month.
The transition comes at a time of ongoing diplomatic engagement between France and Morocco. Lalliot's extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy is seen as a key asset for managing the bilateral relationship.
Prior to this role, Lalliot served as France's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York from 2023 until this new assignment. His career also includes a previous tenure as ambassador to Morocco from 2017 to 2020.
