The French Ministry of Health and Prevention has launched a new national plan to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2032. The strategy, announced in early 2026, aims to significantly reduce the incidence of the disease, which remains a public health concern in specific regions and among vulnerable populations.

The plan focuses on strengthening screening, prevention, and care pathways, particularly in Île-de-France, Mayotte, and Guyane, where incidence rates are highest. It also targets high-risk groups, including people experiencing homelessness, migrants from high-prevalence countries, and individuals living in precarious conditions.

Key measures include expanding access to rapid molecular diagnostic tests, reinforcing contact tracing around new cases, and ensuring free and complete treatment for all patients. The ministry emphasizes the importance of addressing social determinants of health, such as housing, to combat the disease effectively.

This initiative aligns with the World Health Organization's global strategy to end the TB epidemic. Health authorities report that while France has a low overall incidence, persistent localized outbreaks necessitate a coordinated national response to meet the 2032 elimination target.
