South African Police Service (SAPS) officers in Mthatha have arrested four suspects in connection with a kidnapping and a separate vehicle theft incident. The arrests were made on Saturday, March 29, 2026, following coordinated police operations.

According to verified SAPS statements, the suspects, aged between 26 and 33, were apprehended in the Mthatha area. One group is linked to the kidnapping of a victim who was later rescued unharmed by police. A separate investigation led to the recovery of a stolen white Volkswagen Polo and the arrest of suspects connected to that theft.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects are expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrate's Court on Monday, March 31, 2026. The charges include kidnapping and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The swift police action highlights ongoing efforts to combat serious crime in the Eastern Cape. Authorities have urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to aid in crime prevention.
