It features a replica of a typical convenience store interior, including items like snacks and drinks, but all are non-functional and secured to prevent littering. The structure is anchored near the Toronto Islands to ensure safety.
Chen stated in an interview with CBC News that the project aims to comment on consumerism and the isolation of urban life. 'It's a surreal experience to see a store floating in the lake, inviting but inaccessible,' she said. The installation is expected to remain until July 5, 2026, weather permitting.
Local authorities have confirmed that the structure is permitted and poses no navigation hazard. The Toronto Port Authority has issued a notice to mariners about its presence. Visitors can view the installation from shore or by boat, but boarding is not allowed.
