Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has mobilized key federal institutions to raise approximately 65 billion naira (N65bn) for the National Community Food Bank Programme. The announcement was made on Thursday, April 3, 2026, at the launch of the initiative in Abuja.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) was a major contributor to the fund. Other government agencies and private sector partners also participated in the mobilization effort, which aims to establish food banks across communities to combat hunger and food insecurity.
The First Lady stated that the program is designed to provide immediate food relief and support sustainable agricultural practices. The administration has positioned the food bank initiative as a critical component of its broader social welfare strategy.
