According to the FIR, social activist Rajib Sarkar filed the complaint, accusing Banerjee of making statements that could incite unrest.
The complaint was lodged on May 15, 2026, and the police have initiated an investigation under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Representation of the People Act. Banerjee, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress, has not yet commented on the allegations.
