FIFA has launched a new individual player ranking system, the FIFA Power Rankings, during the 2026 World Cup. Developed in collaboration with Aramco, the system uses data collected from matches to rate players. According to the initial rankings, Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari is in the top 20 globally, while Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou ranks fourth among goalkeepers.
The rankings are based on a proprietary algorithm that analyzes player performance metrics such as goals, assists, passes, tackles, and saves. FIFA states that the system aims to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of individual contributions to team performance. The rankings will be updated regularly throughout the tournament and beyond.
This is the first time FIFA has introduced an official individual ranking system, moving beyond its traditional team-based rankings. The initiative has generated significant interest among fans and analysts, though some have questioned the methodology and potential biases in the data collection process.
