Fianna Fáil held an emergency meeting in Leinster House on Wednesday evening amid frustration over Fine Gael politicians announcing details of a new sports grants scheme before it had been finalised, according to reports.
The meeting was called after junior sports minister Charlie McConalogue and other Fine Gael figures publicised elements of the proposed scheme ahead of an official Government announcement. Fianna Fáil TDs and Senators are understood to have expressed anger at being blindsided by their coalition partners.
The sports grants scheme is expected to provide funding to local clubs and organisations across the country. However, the exact details, including the total amount and eligibility criteria, have not yet been confirmed by the Department of Sport.
A Government spokesperson said the scheme would be formally announced in due course and declined to comment on internal coalition discussions. Fianna Fáil has not issued a public statement following the meeting.
