The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has proposed increasing the tax-free income threshold to Tk5 lakh in the upcoming national budget for fiscal year 2026-27. The proposal was submitted to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) during a pre-budget discussion held in Dhaka on April 28, 2026.
FBCCI leaders argued that the current threshold of Tk3.5 lakh is insufficient given rising inflation and living costs. They also recommended simplifying the tax system to encourage voluntary compliance and broaden the tax base.
The proposal is part of a series of recommendations from the private sector aimed at boosting economic growth and easing the burden on low-income earners. The government is expected to finalize the budget by June 2026.
