The Dambai Divisional Police Command has arrested Kwabena Badam, a 35-year-old farmer, following the fatal shooting of a man suspected of attempting to steal yams from a farm at Abongo No. 1 in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region.
The incident occurred on July 25, 2026, when the suspect was allegedly caught red-handed on the farm. Badam reportedly fired a warning shot but the bullet struck the victim, who died at the scene. Police recovered a single-barrel gun and the victim's body has been deposited at the Dambai morgue for autopsy.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting. The suspect is in custody and will be processed for court. The case highlights tensions over farm theft in the region, where yam farming is a key livelihood.
