The European Union has disbursed a grant of €443,989 to four Tanzanian institutions for a project aimed at strengthening the capacity of health workers to manage cross-border health threats. The funding agreement was signed in Dar es Salaam on March 20, 2026, by the EU Ambassador to Tanzania, Christine Grau, and representatives of the beneficiary institutions.

The project, titled "Building Capacity for Cross-Border Disease Prevention and Management in Tanzania," will be implemented by Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, the University of Dodoma, St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences, and the Tanzania Public Health Association. The initiative focuses on training doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel to better prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases that can spread across national borders.

The grant falls under the EU's broader Global Europe NDICI program, which supports development and international cooperation. The training will emphasize regional collaboration and the implementation of International Health Regulations to improve public health security in East Africa.
