According to preliminary data from Statistics Estonia, the country's exports of goods of Estonian origin fell by 8% in February 2026 compared to the same month last year. In current prices, exports amounted to nearly €1.5 billion, while imports totaled nearly €1.9 billion.
This resulted in a trade deficit of €426 million for the month, which is €132 million more than the deficit recorded in February 2025. The data indicates a continued contraction in export activity.
Evelin Pärn-Lee, a leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that the decline was broad-based. "The biggest impact on the trade deficit came from increased imports of mineral products and electrical equipment," she stated, according to the official release. Exports of wood and articles of wood, a key commodity group, saw a significant decrease.
The overall trade flow, which includes goods in transit, also showed a decline. Total exports of goods decreased by 7% and imports by 4% at current prices compared to February 2025.
