As Eid al-Adha approaches, sheep farms in the Essehoul region near Rabat are experiencing a gradual rise in demand. Local breeders report that prices remain stable compared to last year, averaging between 4,000 and 6,000 Moroccan dirhams per animal, depending on weight and breed.
According to the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, the national sheep herd is estimated at 20 million head, with sufficient supply expected for the holiday. Farmers in Essehoul emphasize that they are maintaining transparent pricing to avoid speculation.
Some breeders offer delivery services within Rabat and surrounding areas. The regional livestock market in Ain Aouda, near Rabat, will open daily from mid-May to facilitate purchases.
Authorities have urged consumers to buy from registered farms to ensure animal health and compliance with veterinary standards. The Ministry of Agriculture has also set up mobile veterinary units to check livestock in rural areas.
