Morocco has officially announced that Eid al-Adha (Aïd al-Adha) will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The date was determined by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs based on astronomical calculations, as per the Islamic lunar calendar.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important Islamic holidays. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Muslims traditionally sacrifice a sheep, goat, cow, or camel, and distribute the meat to family, friends, and the needy.
The holiday coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. In Morocco, the day will be marked by special prayers, family gatherings, and charitable acts. The government has urged citizens to follow official announcements regarding holiday schedules and any health or safety guidelines.
