Egypt has launched its first nationwide aerial geophysical survey for minerals in 42 years, a move aimed at attracting new investment in the mining sector. The survey, conducted by the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, covers areas in the Eastern Desert and Sinai Peninsula.
The project uses advanced airborne technology to map mineral deposits, including gold, copper, and rare earth elements. Officials hope the data will support upcoming licensing rounds and boost foreign investment in Egypt's mining industry.
The survey is part of broader efforts to modernize Egypt's mining sector, which has lagged behind other resource-rich countries. The government has revised mining laws to offer more attractive terms to investors, including lower royalties and longer exploration licenses.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the survey is expected to be completed within two years. The results will be made available to investors through a digital platform.
