Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the three East African nations set to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), are reportedly discussing the introduction of a single tourist visa to facilitate travel for fans and visitors during the tournament. The proposal aims to streamline border crossings and boost tourism across the region.
According to reports from East African media outlets in July 2026, the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance regional integration and prepare for the influx of international visitors expected for the continental football event. The single visa would allow holders to travel freely among the three countries for a specified period.
While no official agreement has been finalized as of mid-July 2026, officials from the respective tourism ministries have expressed optimism. The move would align with the existing East African Community (EAC) framework, which already promotes free movement of people and goods among member states.
The 2027 AFCON will be the first to be hosted by three nations simultaneously, presenting logistical challenges but also opportunities for regional cooperation. The single visa proposal is seen as a key step to ensure a smooth experience for attendees and to showcase East Africa as a unified destination.
