Filipina tennis player Alex Eala was defeated in the first round of the 2026 Strasbourg Open by Ukraine's Oleksandra Oliynykova, ranked 66th in the world. The match, played on clay, ended 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 after nearly three hours.
Eala, who had been preparing for the French Open, struggled to maintain momentum after winning the first set. Oliynykova rallied to take the second set and dominated the third, securing victory on her second match point.
This was Eala's final clay-court tournament before Roland Garros. The 20-year-old Filipina has shown promise on the WTA tour but could not overcome Oliynykova's consistent baseline play.
Oliynykova will face either a qualifier or a seeded player in the second round. The Strasbourg Open is a key warm-up event for the French Open, which begins later this month.
