Dunedin, known for its Victorian and Edwardian architecture, wildlife such as the royal albatross colony, and vibrant student culture, has long been a stopover for those heading to Queenstown. Ōamaru, about 120 kilometres north, is famous for its penguin colony and steampunk-themed attractions.
