A driver has pleaded guilty to causing the deaths of two women by dangerous driving on the M20 in Kent. Dr Habiba Hajallie, 25, and Lisa Webber, 60, died after being struck on the hard shoulder near Ashford in October 2022.

Thomas Barrett, 32, of Ashford, admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving at Canterbury Crown Court on 24 March 2026. The court heard the women were on the hard shoulder after one had stopped to help the other with a broken-down vehicle.

Barrett also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving to a third person, Ms Webber's husband, who was also at the scene. Sentencing has been adjourned to a later date.

The case highlights the dangers of driving on motorway hard shoulders. Police confirmed the guilty pleas following the court hearing.
