Toronto police are searching for an off-leash dog that killed a smaller dog and injured its owner in the city's west end on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The incident occurred in the area of Bloor Street West and Runnymede Road, according to a public safety alert issued by the Toronto Police Service.
The attack happened around 2:30 p.m. when a large off-leash dog approached a woman walking her small dog. The larger dog attacked the small dog, killing it, and then bit the woman on the hand when she tried to intervene. The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police describe the suspect dog as a large breed, possibly a pit bull or similar type, with a brown and white coat. The dog was last seen running eastbound on Bloor Street West. The owner of the dog has not been located.
