This change follows the 2024 calendar, which was approved by the DNC in 2023 and saw South Carolina hold the first primary on February 3, 2024. The new proposal aims to increase diversity in early-voting states, reflecting the party's commitment to including more minority voters.
The DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee is set to meet on July 22, 2026, to finalize the recommendation, with a full DNC vote expected later this year. The calendar must also be approved by the Republican National Committee, which has its own process.
