Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has confirmed that MS Dhoni is sidelined with a second injury, a calf problem, delaying his IPL 2026 debut. The 44-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has not played a match this season, with the team initially expecting a two-week recovery period.
Speaking to reporters on April 26, Fleming stated that Dhoni suffered a calf injury during training, adding to concerns after a previous knee issue. 'He's working hard to get back, but we're taking it day by day,' Fleming said, without providing a specific return date.
CSK has played four matches in IPL 2026, winning two and losing two, as of April 27. Dhoni's absence has been felt in the middle order, with the team relying on younger players to fill the gap.
Fleming emphasized that the franchise is prioritizing Dhoni's long-term health over a rushed return. 'We want him fit for the entire season, not just a few games,' he added.
