Mene Ogidi, a 25-year-old artist, was fatally shot on April 27, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State, after a dispute over a package. According to police reports, Ogidi was collecting a package at the Effurun Main Park on Sapele Road when an argument broke out with an ex-SARS officer, identified as John Okafor.
Witnesses said Okafor, who was dismissed from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in 2020, accused Ogidi of stealing the package. The argument escalated, and Okafor allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot Ogidi in the chest. Ogidi was rushed to the Federal Medical Center in Asaba but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Delta State Police Commissioner, Abubakar Mohammed, confirmed the arrest of Okafor on April 29. He stated that the suspect is in custody and will face charges of murder. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
