Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse opened his 2026 outdoor season with a strong performance at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in Gaborone on Sunday, April 26. The six-time Olympic medalist clocked 9.95 seconds in the 100m, his fastest time since the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 2021.
De Grasse, the national record holder in the 200m and reigning Olympic champion in that event, finished second in the race behind American sprinter Kyree King, who won in 9.90 seconds. The time marks a significant improvement for De Grasse, who has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.
The race was held at the National Stadium in Gaborone as part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series. De Grasse's performance signals a promising start to his season as he builds toward the 2026 Commonwealth Games and other major championships.
