NAIROBI, Kenya — The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya has arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of a British man and a string of violent robberies targeting tourists along the country's coast. The arrests were confirmed by the DCI in a statement on Saturday, April 12, 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kiprotich, Joseph Mwangi, and Stephen Omondi. They are alleged to be part of a criminal gang responsible for a series of armed robberies in the coastal regions of Kilifi and Kwale, which are popular with international visitors.
The investigation was launched following the fatal shooting of a 71-year-old British national, whose identity has not been officially released, during a robbery at a private residence in the Kilifi area earlier this year. The DCI stated that the suspects were tracked down through forensic analysis and intelligence-led operations.
Authorities have recovered several items believed to have been stolen from victims, including electronics and personal effects. The suspects are expected to be charged with murder and robbery with violence, which carries severe penalties under Kenyan law.
