David Poile, the only general manager the Nashville Predators have ever had, retired on June 30, 2023, ending a 25-year tenure with the franchise. Poile, 73, stepped down after the 2022-23 NHL season, with Barry Trotz taking over as the new general manager.
Poile was the NHL's winningest general manager with 1,533 career victories, including 1,107 with the Predators. He joined the franchise in 1997 as its first GM and built the team from an expansion club into a consistent playoff contender.
Under Poile's leadership, the Predators made 15 playoff appearances, reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2017, and won the Presidents' Trophy in 2018. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022 as a builder.
Poile's retirement was announced on February 28, 2023, with the transition taking effect at the end of the season. He remained with the organization in an advisory role.
