Singapore's Economic Development Board (EDB) announced on April 9, 2026, that artificial intelligence company DarkIris has established its global research and development headquarters in Singapore. The new facility, located in one-north, will focus on accelerating the development of artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) and artificial general intelligence (AGI) technologies specifically for the gaming and film industries.
The announcement, made via an EDB press release, positions Singapore as a strategic hub for AI innovation. DarkIris cited Singapore's strong intellectual property protections, advanced digital infrastructure, and deep talent pool as key factors in its decision. The company plans to collaborate with local universities and research institutes.
DarkIris's CEO, Dr. Aris Thorne, stated the goal is to create AI tools that enhance creative workflows, not replace human artists. The initial focus will be on developing AI for procedural world-building, character animation, and visual effects. The Singapore government has not disclosed any specific financial incentives provided for this investment.
