The Dar Niaba cultural center in Tangier, Morocco, is currently hosting an exhibition titled "Mariano Fortuny i Marsal (1838-1874) – Maître graveur," dedicated to the Spanish painter and engraver. The exhibition, which opened in early 2026, features a collection of Fortuny's etchings and engravings, highlighting his mastery of the technique.
Mariano Fortuny i Marsal, born in Reus, Spain, in 1838, was a prominent figure in 19th-century art, known for his detailed Orientalist paintings and innovative printmaking. He traveled extensively in North Africa, including Morocco, which influenced his work. The exhibition at Dar Niaba includes pieces from his travels, such as scenes of Tangier and Tetouan.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Rabat and the Instituto Cervantes in Tangier. It aims to introduce Moroccan audiences to Fortuny's graphic work, which is less known than his paintings. The exhibition runs until June 2026, according to local cultural calendars.
