The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced that British conductor Daniel Harding will become its next music director. Harding, 50, will begin his tenure in the 2027/28 season with an initial six-year contract.
Harding succeeds Gustavo Dudamel, who led the orchestra from 2009 to 2026. Dudamel is now music director of the New York Philharmonic.
Harding currently serves as music director of the Orchestre de Paris and has held positions with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He is known for his interpretations of Mahler and contemporary works.
The appointment was confirmed by the LA Philharmonic board on May 27, 2026. Harding will conduct his first concert as music director-designate in October 2026.
