PRAGUE, March 30 (Reuters) - Czech police have detained a fifth suspect in connection with an arson attack on a factory producing optics and drones last month, a spokesperson confirmed on Sunday. The attack targeted a facility of the company PRAMET in the town of Šumperk in the Olomouc region.

The public prosecutor's office stated that four individuals were previously charged in the case and are in custody. The fifth suspect, whose identity has not been released, was detained on Saturday. Police have not disclosed the suspect's nationality or specific alleged role.

The arson attack occurred on March 18, causing significant damage to the factory building. PRAMET is a subsidiary of the global industrial group Sandvik and manufactures precision tools and components, including for the aerospace and defense sectors.

Authorities have described the incident as a serious violent crime and are investigating potential motives, which local media have speculated could be linked to the facility's role in military supply chains amid the war in Ukraine. The investigation remains ongoing.
