Customs officials at the Silk Route Dry Port thwarted two significant smuggling attempts, according to a statement released on July 29, 2026. The operations, conducted over the past week, led to the seizure of contraband valued at approximately 5 million Pakistani rupees.
In the first incident, authorities intercepted a shipment of non-duty-paid cigarettes hidden among declared goods. The second attempt involved the concealment of 50 kilograms of hashish within a consignment of household items. Both shipments were destined for international markets via the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Collector of Customs, Muhammad Asif, confirmed the seizures and praised the vigilance of the inspection teams. “Our staff remains committed to preventing illegal trade and protecting national security,” he stated. Investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals behind the smuggling rings.
The Silk Route Dry Port, located near the China-Pakistan border, is a key hub for trade under CPEC. This incident highlights ongoing challenges in securing the corridor against illicit activities.
