According to a report by Public Citizen, the cryptocurrency industry has spent nearly $200 million on federal lobbying in the United States since 2023, aiming to influence legislation favorable to digital assets. This spending includes contributions from major firms like Coinbase, Ripple, and Binance, as well as industry groups such as the Blockchain Association.
The lobbying efforts have focused on bills like the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act (FIT21), which passed the House in May 2024, and the Lummis-Gillibrand Responsible Financial Innovation Act. These bills seek to clarify regulatory oversight of cryptocurrencies, with the SEC and CFTC sharing authority.
As of July 2026, the industry continues to push for a comprehensive regulatory framework, with the Senate considering new legislation. Investors should note that while lobbying has increased, no major federal law has been enacted yet, and regulatory uncertainty persists.
