The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nakuru has dismissed a petition that sought to stop the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) from conducting its national elections on weekdays. The petition, filed by a parent, argued that holding the elections from Monday to Friday would disrupt children's education and teachers' freedom of association.

Justice David Nderitu, in a ruling delivered on Thursday, April 2, 2026, found the petitioner's claims unsubstantiated. The court held that the petitioner failed to provide concrete evidence that the election schedule, set for April 7-11, 2026, would cause the alleged disruptions to learning.

The judge noted that the union had provided a reasonable plan for the elections and that the petitioner's case was based on speculation. The dismissal clears the way for KUPPET to proceed with its planned election process across its branches next week.
