GENEVA, May 22 - Volunteers are going door-to-door to combat misinformation about Ebola in the area at the centre of the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said on Friday.
The IFRC reported that community engagement teams are actively addressing rumors and false information that have hindered response efforts. The volunteers are providing accurate health information and encouraging safe practices to prevent the spread of the virus.
The approach aims to build trust and ensure that communities have reliable information about Ebola transmission, symptoms, and prevention measures. The IFRC emphasized the importance of local volunteers who understand the cultural context and can effectively communicate with residents.
