Khamzat Chimaev has responded to Conor McGregor's recent claim that the UFC middleweight title belongs to him, telling the Irishman to 'get off drugs.' The exchange began when McGregor, in a social media post, referred to the 185-pound belt as 'his belt,' a statement that drew a sharp rebuke from Chimaev.
Chimaev, who is currently ranked among the top contenders in the middleweight division, did not hold back in his response. 'Get off drugs, Conor. This is my belt,' Chimaev said, as reported by multiple MMA outlets. The Swedish fighter has been on a dominant run in the UFC, with his most recent victory coming against Robert Whittaker at UFC 308 in October 2024.
McGregor, a former two-division champion, has not fought since July 2021, when he suffered a broken leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier. His comments about the middleweight title have been met with skepticism, given his extended absence from the octagon and his history of controversial statements.
The middleweight title is currently held by Dricus du Plessis, who won the belt in January 2024 and successfully defended it against Sean Strickland in February 2025. Chimaev is expected to challenge for the title later this year, pending a fight with the winner of an upcoming bout between du Plessis and another top contender.
