Chanute baseball falls to Mustangs in close contest

The Chanute Blue Comets baseball team lost 5-3 to the Iola Mustangs in a competitive league game on March 25.

The Chanute High School Blue Comets baseball team was defeated 5-3 by the Iola Mustangs in a SEK League matchup on Tuesday, March 25. The game was played at Iola's Riverside Park.

Chanute's pitchers, led by starter Kaden Hembree, kept the game close against a strong Mustangs lineup. Hembree pitched into the sixth inning, striking out six batters. The Blue Comets' offense was highlighted by a two-run single from Kaden Hembree in the third inning, which briefly gave Chanute a 2-1 lead.

Iola responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to reclaim the lead. Chanute managed to load the bases in the seventh inning but could not complete the comeback. With the loss, Chanute's record moved to 0-2 for the young season.

The Blue Comets are scheduled to play next against the Coffeyville Golden Tornado on Thursday, March 27.
