Dar es Salaam. A day after being expelled from the opposition party Chadema, former Zanzibar Vice Chairman, Mr Said Issa Mohammed, has dismissed the decision as procedurally flawed and unconstitutional. He insists he remains a legitimate party member protected by party rules.
Mr Mohammed stated that the expulsion was based on allegations of misconduct, but he argues that the party did not follow its own disciplinary procedures. He has vowed to challenge the decision through internal party mechanisms and, if necessary, in court.
Chadema officials have not yet publicly responded to Mr Mohammed's claims. The party's national executive committee reportedly made the decision on June 8, 2026, citing violations of party constitution.
This internal dispute comes at a time when Chadema is preparing for local elections scheduled later this year. The party has been a key opposition force in Tanzania and Zanzibar.
