CEBU CITY – Mayor Nestor Archival has ordered stricter measures to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Cebu City, according to local officials. The directive includes intensified border inspections, expanded disease surveillance, and closer cooperation with stakeholders in the hog industry.
The move comes as ASF continues to threaten the Philippines' swine population. While no new cases have been reported in Cebu City recently, the mayor emphasized the need for vigilance to protect local hog farmers and the food supply.
Archival urged residents to report any unusual pig deaths and to follow biosecurity protocols. The city government is coordinating with the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Animal Industry to ensure timely response.
Local authorities have also reminded the public to avoid feeding pigs with leftover food that may contain contaminated meat, a common transmission route for ASF.
