Castleford Tigers produced a major upset in the Betfred Super League, defeating the Wigan Warriors 24-14 at the DW Stadium on Friday night. The victory lifts Castleford off the bottom of the league table, a position now occupied by the London Broncos.
The Tigers started strongly, with Krystian Mapapalangi scoring the opening try within the first five minutes. Wigan responded with a try from Abbas Miski, but Castleford regained control before halftime through a try from Josh Simm, converted by Danny Richardson, giving them a 12-6 lead.
Wigan closed the gap early in the second half with a try from Jai Field, but Castleford sealed the win with further tries from Cain Robb and Josh Hodson. Danny Richardson added two conversions for a final score of 24-14.
The result marks a significant turnaround for Castleford under coach Craig Lingard, ending a four-match losing streak. Wigan Warriors, the defending champions, have now lost two of their last three matches.
