Senegal filed an appeal with CAS after losing the final to Morocco in February 2025. The Senegalese Football Federation alleged irregularities in the match officiating and requested a replay or annulment of the result. Morocco won the final 2-1, securing their first AFCON title since 1976.
CAS confirmed the postponement in a statement on July 21, 2026, citing the complexity of the case and the need for thorough examination. No new date has been set for the hearing, but CAS indicated it aims to resolve the matter before the end of 2026.
The dispute has drawn attention from football authorities across Africa, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) expressing confidence in the integrity of the tournament. Both Senegal and Morocco have called for a fair resolution.
