Alex Newhook scored his second Game 7-winning goal of the postseason, this time 11 minutes and 22 seconds into overtime, as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 on Monday night to advance to the Eastern Conference final.
Newhook drove up the left wing and as he approached the net, he fired a shot that beat Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. The goal sent the Bell Centre crowd into a frenzy and secured Montreal's spot in the next round.
The Canadiens will now face the winner of the other Eastern Conference semifinal series. The date and time for the start of the conference final have not yet been announced.
