The Government of Canada has updated its travel advice for the Philippines, advising travelers to avoid permanent danger zones around active volcanoes. The advisory, updated on March 20, 2026, specifically mentions the Mayon Volcano in Albay province and the Taal Volcano in Batangas province.

According to the official travel.gc.ca website, Philippine authorities enforce a 6-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone around Mayon Volcano and strict restrictions around Taal Volcano Island and high-risk barangays. The advisory states that entering these zones is prohibited due to threats of sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic gas, and landslides.

The Canadian government advises travelers to monitor local media, follow instructions from local authorities, and consult the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) for the latest alerts. The overall risk level for the Philippines remains at "Exercise a high degree of caution" due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping.

This update aligns with ongoing volcanic activity in the region. PHIVOLCS maintains Alert Level 2 for both Taal and Mayon volcanoes, indicating increased unrest.
