The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the pot composition for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers draw, scheduled for May 19, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt. The draw will determine the group stage matchups for 48 teams competing for 24 spots in the final tournament, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
According to CAF, the pots are based on the latest FIFA World Rankings as of April 2026. Pot 1 includes top-ranked teams such as Morocco, Senegal, and Nigeria, while Pot 2 features teams like Cameroon, Ghana, and Algeria. The remaining pots are divided among lower-ranked nations, with the draw ensuring no group contains more than one team from the same pot.
The qualifiers are scheduled to begin in September 2026 and conclude in November 2026, with matches played in a home-and-away format. The final tournament will mark the first time three countries co-host the CAN, with matches planned across 12 stadiums in East Africa.
CAF has confirmed that the draw will be streamed live on its official platforms, and the full fixture list will be published immediately after the event.
